Obituary

Racine - James Charles Burton, 86, left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on August 13, 2010.Jim was born February 8, 1924, in Portage, Wisconsin, to John Wilson and Hazel (nee: Thornton) Burton, and was born again to eternal life on April 22, 1946. On July 31, 1949, he married the former Noreen Helen Loomans, after serving his country in Europe with the United States Army in World War II. Jim received his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin, and retired from Modine Manufacturing Company after 33 years of service as a Registered Professional Engineer in the Research Department, where his work resulted in patentable ideas. A truly Christian man, Jim worked many years on school and stewardship boards of St. John's Lutheran Church. He dearly loved his family and was a devoted husband and father. He passed his lifelong love of hunting, fishing, fly tying, wild asparagus and gardening to his children, just as his father had to him. He loved telling a good fish story and working the daily crossword puzzle, and will be following the Badgers and Packers from Heaven.Apart from the war, Jim never ventured long from the native Wisconsin that he loved, a love kindled by his father at age four on a trout stream. Helpful and kind to all, Jim was loved by all.Jim is survived by Noreen, the love-of-his-life for 61 years. He is also survived by his loving children: Jeffrey (Midori) Burton; John (Christy) Burton; Julia (Rev. David) Sawhill; and Randall (Joanne) Burton; sisters: Edna (Lloyd) Louck; Elizabeth (Marvin) Haynes; grandchildren: Christopher, Elliot and Carina Burton; Jason and Hollin Burton; Rebecca and Jennifer Sawhill; great grandchildren: Brianna, Rome and Gavin Burton; brothers-in-law: Keith, Lowell, Dale and Lynn Loomans; nieces and nephews; dozens of fly rods and thousands of hand-tied flies.
