Racine- Jackie Lynn Kremer, aka "the hummingbird" flitted away all too soon on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the age of 79. Though it was unexpected, she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren—so many in fact that the medical staff had to find extra chairs. But that's what happens when you care so much about the people around you—it comes back to you. And Jackie cared about EVERYONE, from her family to her friends to the hummingbirds who returned to her yard every year.
Sweet, tiny, fun-loving, caring and a little mischievous, Jackie was born on July 3, 1945 to the late Lewis E. and Janet L. (nee: Roy) Taylor, and was sister to the late Ronald and Wendel Taylor. She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated a proud "Tiger" from Riverside University High School in 1963. She immediately entered the workforce, saved her money and purchased a 1965 candy-apple-red Mustang that she talked about to the end.
One fateful day, she stopped into a diner to visit her daughter as she waitressed. A boisterous, wise-cracking man named John E. Kremer was at the counter—and the rest was history. They were married on June 15, 1996 and enjoyed 24 years of car shows, fairs and parades, surrounded by family, before John's passing in 2020.
Throughout Jackie's career she held a variety of positions—not surprisingly—caring for people. All sorts of people—old, young, the developmentally disabled. Of all her responsibilities over the years, she most enjoyed running her own in-home daycare facility in both Milwaukee and Racine. Most recently, she put herself in charge of caring for the baby chicks hatched at her new home, the Grand Hills Castle in New Berlin. She also watered plants and helped her friends there. We liked to call her Queen of the Castle.
Jackie loved to have fun and was always up for hijinks. Singing, dancing, and all manner of silliness. A self-described goofball, her house exploded with singing decorations that came out for Christmas and often never found their ways back into the boxes. She loved animals of all kinds, but especially hummingbirds, songbirds and her granddogs. She also enjoyed gardening and her yard would explode with color every spring and summer. She took great pride in her giant iris, tulips, daffodils, lilac, peonies, roses, lilies and her beloved gingko tree.
She is survived by her children Diana (Tom Gregory) Bagley, Ryan (Heather) Bagley, Ian (Heather) Bagley, "Nick" (Laura) Kremer, Gailanne (Tom) Karpinski, Michelle Tidwell and Mary (Jerry) Russell; her grandchildren Siobhan and Ciaran Bagley, Makenna and Jonah Bagley, David, Sarah and Elizabeth Kremer, Rob and Amber Karpinski, Sydney Tidwell, Zachary Trapman and Olivia Russell; her former husband Robert Bagley; and her grand-pets Finn, Gilda, Curly, Sagan, Macie and Peanut.
A memorial service for Jackie will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Purath-Strand Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Private internment will take place at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Oak Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family has request memorials be made to Racine Dominicans Senior Companion Program, 5111 Wright Avenue, Racine WI 53406.
