Obituary

Racine- Irma L. Sturicz, 92, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Elizabeth Gardens, with her family at her side as she always wanted.

Irma was born in Sturtevant on March 14, 1930 to the late Boudewin and Eliza (nee: Petillion) Callewaert. She was the youngest of 10 children.

On August 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to Mitchell M. Sturicz. Sadly, Mitchell passed away December 12, 2011.

Over the years, Irma lived in Sturtevant, Kenosha, Mesa, AZ and Racine. Her outgoing and caring nature enabled her to form many friendships wherever she lived. She always regarded her family as most important and never stopped worrying about them and always wanted to know they were well. She was small in stature but had a big heart. She especially enjoyed hearing about and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they progressed through life. She also treasured the time spent reminiscing with her siblings. The stories they shared were often funny and sometimes sad, but reflected a life filled with many good memories.

Irma loved playing cards and other games. Uno®, Skip-bo® and cribbage were among her favorites, and she also enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune often able to outscore the television contestants. She also had a good sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke, even a bit of teasing. Before her vision began to fail, she loved reading, having read numerous novels, and loved sharing conversations with others who read the same books. Irma also enjoyed many family road trips around the U.S. and Canada to see new places and to visit relatives. She prepared the routes and navigated along the way.

Irma is survived by her children Kathy Van Tubbergen and Greg (Celeste) Sturicz; her grandchildren Natalie (Brent) Heiges, Nicholas (Ashely Monti) Van Tubbergen and Eric Van Tubbergen; her great- grandchildren Freddy, Joanie and Sophie Heiges; and her many nieces, nephews and cousins, including those in Canada.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irma is preceded in death by her son-in-law Larry Van Tubbergen, 5 brothers and 4 sisters and their spouses.

The family would like to thank the caring and loving staff and residents at Elizabeth Gardens. They welcomed her and assisted with her needs and care during her time there. A special thank you to Jean and Judy who visited her as Eucharistic Ministers from St. Sebastian Parish.
