RACINE – Irene Alice (nee, McGruder) Lee, 96, passed away at St. Monica's Senior Living on Thursday, September 8, 2016. Irene was born in Racine on June 1, 1920 to Miles and Nellie (nee, Jackson) McGruder. She graduated from Washington Park High School. On February 18, 1940, Irene married James E. Lee. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1998. She was a member of Immanuel Episcopal Church. In her early years she was an elevator operator at the Janes Building, later working at High Ridge Nursing Home until her retirement. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lee; grandchildren, Tracy Lee, Kim Ralph and Gregory Lee; and five great-grandchildren. Irene is also survived by other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband; she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Orlando Lee; two brothers, Willis and Joe Westmoreland and two sisters, Esther (nee, Westmoreland) Williams and Mae Frances (nee, McGruder) Doss. In keeping with Irene's wishes, private services were held followed by inurnment at Graceland Cemetery.
