Helen Smerchek Racine – Helen Smerchek, nee Fetek, 90, passed away at Harmony Commons in Racine on Sunday, June 27, 2010. Helen was born in Racine on March 16, 1920 to Joseph and Marie (nee, Pavek) Fetek. She has been a lifelong Racine Resident. Helen married Edwin L. Smerchek in Racine on February 14, 1942. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2004. Helen was a member of the American Sokol since her teens and enjoyed life with her sewing club and card club friends. Survivors include her children, Ed (Lisa) Smerchek of Racine, Anne Daleske of Anoka, MN and Eileen (John) Gill of College Place, WA; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and sisters, Norma Suchy of LasVegas, NV and Jean Thomas of Joliet, IL. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph and grandson, Daniel Pfeifer. Funeral services for Helen will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 3 p.m. with Rev. John Fleming officiating. Interment will follow at Bohemian National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. and on Friday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
