Racine- Harry "Bert" Svensson, 65, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 30, 2010 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.Harry was born in Goteborg, Sweden on May 31, 1945 to the late Harry and Henny (nee: Larson) Svensson. Harry came to the United States in 1966 after serving two years in Sweden's Army. Harry was drafted in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. He was always very proud of his service and enjoyed his military reunions. Harry married the former Mary Beth Bryan in Racine on November 7, 1970. Harry lived and worked for his family, most of all he loved spending time with them. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Harry's grandchildren were his greatest joy. Hunting and fishing were great passions of his. He also enjoyed collecting small electrical gadgets,which filled every available space. Harry worked hard as a tool & die machinist for over 44 years. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge #437 and the Danish Brotherhood.Harry is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Svensson; daughter, Gina Svensson; son, Steven (Rebecca) Svensson; four beloved grandchildren, Justin, Julie, Jacob and Charlie; sisters, Carol Vance and Darlene Kueffer; and his brother, Jim (Barb) Kueffer. Harry is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. A memorial service for Harry will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. with Rev. Jason Holm officiating. Interment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be directed the Zablocki V.A.
