George Charles Sahagian, 84, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010. George was born on Sept. 25, 1925 to Alexander and Ann (Aghavni) Sahagian. A lifelong resident of Racine, Wisconsin, he graduated from Horlick High School and was a star running back for the Horlick Rebels and minor league teams, Racine Bees/Legion. He proudly served his country on the Robert F. Keller in the Pacific fleet of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Albera Tavitian in 1957, raised four children, and owned and operated George's Beauty Salon in Racine for 30 years. As an active member of the local Armenian community, George served on the committee that constructed St. Mesrob Church's current facility on Erie Street. George was a sweet man with a quick smile who was passionate about golf, football, playing cards, good food and good westerns, none of which held a candle to his family, whom he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed. George is survived by his loving wife, Albera; their four children, Joan (Rick) Stuckmann of Batavia IL, Alex Sahagian of Racine, Cathy (Jeff) Mousseau of Wheaton IL, and Michelle (Abe) Ouzounian of Racine; his five grandchildren, Peter Stuckmann, Jack and Allie Mousseau, and Alex and Zaven Ouzounian; sisters, Clara Jaeck and Pat Kline, and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services for George will be held at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 4605 Erie Street, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian officiating. Interment will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
