RACINE – George Korakian, 91, passed away at Lakeshore Manor on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. George was born in Racine on January 14, 1927 to Vartouk and Margaret (nee, Hazarshian) Korakian. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. George married the former Eleanor Louise Cutrell, celebrating 67 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2017. At a young age, George worked in construction. In 1988 he retired from Western Publishing Company where he had worked for over 40 years as a Journeyman Bookbinder. He was a past business manager of the YMCA Kiltie Kadets. George loved golf, camping, the Green Bay Packers, UW football, gardening and skiing. He was an avid woodworker and cabinet maker. A true craftsman; he could build and create anything while tinkering in his workshop. He loved to socialize and spend time with his friends, but most of all he loved his family. Family was the most important thing in his life. Survivors include his children, Dan (Marjorie) Korakian, Diane (Pat) Hinze and Jodi (Jeff) Smith; grandchildren, Gina Alvarez, Peter (Jeni) Korakian, Angela (Erik) Langdon, Dereck Hinze, Haley Smith, Peyton Smith and Elena Cutrell; great-grandchildren, Oscar Alvarez, Randie Langdon and Rhianna Langdon; nieces and nephew, Lucy Alloian, Robert Akulian, Janet Akulian and Alice Akulian; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred and Joanne Cutrell and Lynn Cutrell. George is also survived by Emily Weiss, Sam Weiss and Julia Bowen who he held special in his heart; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Artin (Yeghsa) Akulian and Jack Korakian; and his uncle, Parsegh Hazarshian. Funeral services for George will be held at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 4605 Erie Street, on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Avedis Kalayjian and Fr. Yeprem Kelegian officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church.
