Racine – Gary W. Schallock, 79, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Saturday, July 21, 2012. Gary was born in Racine on June 25, 1933 to Lorenz and Vivian (nee, Flint) Schallock and he spent his early life in the Milwaukee area. He graduated from West Milwaukee High School in 1951 and graduated from UW Madison in 1961. Gary had thirty years of government service including three years in the U.S. Army where he served at Fort Ord, CA, Yuma Test Station, AZ, Fort Lewis, WA, and Sendai and Hachinohe, Japan as a cryptographer. He was honorably discharged as a Sgt. E-5. After graduating from UW as a Geologist/Cartographer he worked at the Army Map Service in Maryland. He then spent two years in Afghanistan mapping the country for AID. Gary returned to the Map Service and married Genevieve Foley, a good woman, of Detroit, whom he met in Afghanistan. In 1966 their daughter Rebecca was born and in 1968 their daughter Ariana (Rana). In 1969 he moved to Detroit and Sterling Heights, MI where Gary worked as a writer/editor of technical publications at the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Command. Gary had a good, full life, visiting nineteen countries and forty-six of the states.Gary is survived by his daughter, Becky; his former wife, Jen; and granddaughter, Briana Curtis of Chesterfield, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents; his excellent brother, Jack; and a beautiful daughter, Rana. In keeping with Gary's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services. Gary would like to send his thanks to his wonderful friends over the years and the wonderful memories they gave him, and to his relatives, particularly cousin, Shirley Hyatt and her daughter and son-in-law, Janeen and John Wensing, and other cousins. Special love to his sister-in-law, Joann Johnson, nephew, Michael and Diane Baker and their children of North Carolina: and niece, Joy and Michael Hardie and their children of Farmington Hills, MI.
