Obituary

Freda S. Petersen Door County - Freda S. (Matern) Petersen, 88, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie on Saturday, September 15, 2007. Freda was born in Racine on November 3, 1918 to John and Susanna Matern. She graduated from Wm. Horlick High School in 1936. Freda was united in marriage to Steve Petersen in Racine on June 3, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1983. After raising her family in Racine, Freda retired to Door County in 1975, where she enjoyed many years of visits from family and friends. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Church in Sturgeon Bay. Freda was a dog lover and also loved to golf and travel, with memorable trips to Italy and Japan. Freda is survived by her children, Mark (Keiko) Petersen of Japan, Constance (Lynn Torkelson) Petersen of Michigan and Curtiss (Cathy) Petersen of Racine; grandchildren, Kristin Espinosa, Meredith Neuman, Marie Petersen, Nicholas, Daniel, and Zachary Torkelson, Andrew and Hannah Petersen; best friend and twin sister, Rose (Claire) Glines of Dousman, WI. Freda is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Steff Neuman; sisters, Marie Matern, Elizabeth Matern and Catherine Frerich; and brothers, Louis Matern, John Matern and William Matern. Funeral services for Freda will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Fleming officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Alliance. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Superior Home Nursing and Hospice of Houghton, MI and Hospice Alliance of Pleasant Prairie for all the compassionate care given to our mother, Freda.
