Elisabeth Verikas, 98, passed away peacefully at Ascension Spring Street Campus, surrounded by her loving family.
Elisabeth was born in Graudenz, West Prussia on May 26, 1926, to Herman and Kate (nee Kodritzki) Janke. She married Aleksandras Verikas in Hann-Munden, Germany, in 1950. They immigrated to the United States in 1956. Sadly, she lost the love of her life on July 2, 2013.
Elisabeth's early years were marked by significant trials and hardships, including being forced to flee her homeland to Germany. Despite these challenges, she persevered and developed into a remarkable woman known for her selflessness and dedication to others. Never one to do anything for herself. A true philanthropist, Elisabeth donated to various humanitarian and religious organizations. She had a unique talent for transforming simple moments into extraordinary experiences and was often heard singing joyful tunes. She was a devout Christian and follower of the Lord. Elisabeth was a wealth of knowledge. She enjoyed writing letters and corresponding with her friends and acquaintances across the world. Elisabeth also enjoyed reading.
Elisabeth will be deeply missed by her children: Peter (Mary) Verikas, Raymond Verikas, Elana Richardson Tarwid, and John (Michelle) Verikas; her grandchildren: Sharon Verikas, Eric Verikas, Melanie (Tom) Larson, Corey (Sarah) Guthrey, Raymond Chavez, Justin Richardson, Amber Cutsforth, Ashley Hawley, Alicia Verikas, Alex Verikas, Victoria Verikas, John Verikas, and Joseph Verikas; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Annie Verikas Sandbom.
Funeral services for Elisabeth will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy. 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
