Edward A. KrausRacine- Edward A. Kraus, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Lakeshore Manor on Thursday, December 6, 2007.Edward was born in Paul, Idaho on February 27, 1918 to John and Amelia (nee: Maier) Kraus. He married Martha M. Meyer at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on May 4, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2007. Edward served his country in the United States Marines 4th Division in the Pacific during WW II, serving in battles in the Marshall Islands, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. He worked for 21 years as a precision grinder at Twin Disc Company, retiring in 1980. Edward was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and an active member of the Property Committee. Edward was a devoted family man, a 'Mr. Fix It,' an avid fisherman, and he became a lifelong fan of baseball's St. Louis Cardinal Gashouse Gang in the 1930's. Continuing in that tradition, his great grandsons are fourth generation Cardinal fans. Survivors include his son, Lawrence (Jane) Kraus of Racine; daughter, Julie (Douglas) Merow of Kenosha; grandchildren, Angela (Scott) Rasch, Jeff (Niki) Kraus, Amy (Shane Firari) Herrmann, Carrie Herrmann and Elise Merow and 11 great grandchildren, Connor and Logan (Angela Rasch), Colton, Nolan, Haiden and Nylah (Jeff Kraus), Olivia and Owen (Amy Herrmann) and Jayce, Ethan and Seth (Carrie Herrmann). He is also survived by his sister, Caroline Weitzel, his brother, Donald (Helen) Kraus, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers, and 4 sisters.Funeral services for Edward will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Rev. James F. Peters officiating. Internment will take place in Caledonia Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Edward's name.The family would like to extend a special thank you to the devoted staff of Lakeshore Manor for all of their loving and compassionate care.
