Racine - With his family by his side, Edward Holbus, 90, passed away peacefully at Willowcrest Care Center in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 16, 2014.Edward was born in Racine on June 15, 1923 to Martin Sr. and Caroline Holbus.He married Beverly Mertins on June 25, 1948 and was blessed with over 60 years of marriage. He graduated from Park High School and attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and graduated in 1947.Edward was an inventor and innovative thinker who was never satisfied with the way things were made or done. He started and ran several businesses throughout his life. He entered the car wash industry in the 1960's and created many products and services. His background in chemistry led him to be awarded numerous patents. His patented product called "Hot Wax" is still used in car washes today. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, reading history books, and listening to Big Band music with Beverly. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, parents Martin Sr. and Caroline, brothers John, Rudy and Martin and sisters Betty, Ann and Susan. He is survived by brothers Frank and Joseph; children, Jeffrey (Marilyn) Holbus their children, Nick and Eric of Racine, WI; William (Gayla) Holbus their son Ben, of Union Grove, WI; Cynthia and Nancy Holbus of Elk Grove, CA; and Jim (Dorothy) Holbus and their children Vaughn and Taylor of Norcross GA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and relatives.Celebration of his life will be held Thursday April 24, 2014 with Father Brian Holbus officiating. Visitation begins at 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home.The Holbus family would like to thank the entire staff at Willowcrest Care Center, as well as Heartland Hospice, for their professional and dedicated care of Edward.
