RACINE – Duane George Gorkowski, 87, passed away peacefully at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton on Friday, March 4, 2022. Duane was born in Fairchild, WI on September 6, 1934, to the late George and Celia (nee, Smith) Gorkowski. He graduated from Fairchild High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958. On September 30, 1961, he married the former Darlene Hanson, celebrating 60 years of marriage. Duane was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, trustee and on the Board of Evangelism. He retired from Case New Holland after more than 45 years. Duane loved sports. He enjoyed sitting in his garage watching the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. He always loved when friends stopped by and was always up for a "cold one." He never missed his daughter's sporting events and was their biggest fan. Most of all he loved spending time with and watching his grandchildren grow. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Gorkowski; daughters, Lori (Chad) Leonard and Julie (Kent) Schueller; granddaughters, Nora Schueller, Margo Schueller and Vera Schueller; his sisters and brothers, Marcella (Lee) Pinson, Janice Peterson, LeRoy (Carol) Gorkowski, Richard (Stephanie) Gorkowski, Robert Gorkowski, Kenneth Gorkowski and Daniel Gorkowski. Duane is also survived by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Kenneth Krall, Leonard Peterson, Ilene and Ray Durst and nephew Darwin Durst. Funeral service for Duane will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3350 LaSalle Street on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, March 14, 2022. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family for a visitation at the church on Saturday afternoon from 12 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Christ the King Lutheran Church or Racine Lutheran High School have been suggested.
