Doris E. ManchesterRacine- Doris E. Manchester, 82, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.Doris was born in Marquette, Michigan on August 1, 1928 to Jerry and Emma (nee: Furaitor) Westman. She married Rolby "R.D." Manchester on July 30, 1949 in Flint, MI. He preceded her in death. Doris was a seamstress working at Badger Uniform for 22 years. More than anything Doris loved her time with family and friends, playing cards, board games or just talking and drinking coffee. She was a great cook; people would travel miles to have a taste of her chicken soup. She also made delicious cheesecakes that were served at a local restaurant. Her talents also included ornamental crafts and crocheting. She sold her crafts at a local store and many family members still have some of her projects. Doris enjoyed gardening, were she would have a variety of both vegetables and flowers. She loved the wildlife. She would feed the birds in the morning and the deer at night, the turkeys would just free load off the leftovers. Doris moved back to Racine after her husband's death and split her time between Racine and with her daughter's family in Florida.She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Chuck) Morgan of Havorille, FL, Melody (Don) Gustavson and Sharron (Dana) Spath, both of Racine; sons, Rolley (Yolanda) Manchester of Long View, WA and Daryl (Diana) Manchester of Racine; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; sisters, Marie Jensen of Gwinn, MI, Betty Cornelia of Ostego, MI and Sharon Anderson of Ishpeming, MI; brother John Westman of Ishpeming, MI and sister in law, Mary Ann Westman of Racine; Doris is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jerry (Luella) Westman, Roy (Mary Jane) Westman, Bobby, Donald, Harry and Clayton Westman; sisters, Lorraine (Rudy) Hukala, Mary Ann (Don) Burdick and Dorothy Westman and granddaughter, Venis Manchester. A memorial service for Doris will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Fleming officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
