Obituary

Racine – Donald H. Mundt, Sr., 84, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Saturday, September 4, 2010. Don was born in LeSueur, MN on January 11, 1926 to Otto and Elsie (nee, Gruetzmacher) Mundt. Don served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII. Following the war, Don came to Racine in 1947 to visit his uncle George Mundt. He enjoyed the area so much he decided to stay. He married the former Doris Bronson in Racine on October 8, 1949. He was employed by the City of Racine in the Parks Department for over 38 years, first working as a tree trimmer, then many years as greens keeper at Shoop Park Golf Course, and last in playground maintenance before retiring on January 11, 1988. In retirement, Don loved to work around the house, especially in the yard, taking care of the lawn and flowers. He also enjoyed returning to his hometown in Minnesota to visit family and friends. Don would spend several weeks every October during harvest playing farmer and working on his brother-in-law, Allen's farm. Don is survived by his wife, Doris Mundt; sons, Donald H. (Lynn) Mundt, Jr. and Raymond Mundt; brother, James (Marion) Mundt of Brooklyn Park, MN; and sister, Joan (Allen) Sunderman of LeSueur, MN. Don is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In honoring Don's wishes, cremation will take place. There will be no services. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Ridgewood Care Center for all of their excellent care and compassion they provided for don and to Hospice Alliance for their care during Don's last weeks.
