Our loving mother, Delores Ann Mahnke, passed away in Ascension Hospital on May 23, 2020 as a result of complications from the Covid Virus.Delores was born in Racine on December 11, 1932, the daughter of Ervin and Hattie (Nee: Eichelberg) Edelburg.Schooled in Racine, she attended Winslow Elementary, Franklin Middle School and graduated in 1951 from Lutheran High School. It was there that she cultivated many friendships that lasted her lifetime.During these early years, her father purchased a small farm, where Delores became the proud owner of a horse named King. She loved to ride him, along with her sister, in the fields surrounding Horlick High, close to their farm.In 1953, Delores married John Mahnke, a union that spanned 34 years and produced 3 sons: Paul, Peter and James.Delores was a very good baker, and excellent cook, both lifelong passions. Her pies were her signature specialty, they were the bomb!She loved nice clothes and jewelry and had great fashion sense. She loved to go to the beach, where us boys learned to love PBJ sandwiches. She loved her excursions with her Red Hat gals, going to foreign films with her best friend Marge, or taking a long walk.Delores loved her grandkids and took special joy in attending their social and sporting events.Her work life outside the home started with stints as a lab tech, employment at Surgi-Tech, and at Lincoln Center where she was assistant manager for many years until her retirement. Being a people person, she often volunteered her time, most notably to the Lutheran Thrift Stores.Devoutly religious, Delores took great comfort in her faith, and maintained a close relationship with her church.Surviving Delores are her sons Paul, Peter, James (Lisa), her granddaughter Marissa and grandson Cameron. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Jean, and a brother Ervin, along with a daughter-n-law Rae.According to her wishes, cremation will take place and her ceremony will be private. In memory of Delores, donations can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Lutheran High School.
