Debra Virginia Oates Turner, age 61, passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2021 at Froedtert South due to complications of COVID 19. Debra was born on October 7, 1959 at Queens Hospital in New York to Frederick Douglas Oates and Virginia Elizabeth Reid. She went to school at John Bowne high school. Debra left New Yourk with her oldest daughter and her father and moved to Racine in 1976. She worked at Big Boys and Andreas Restaurant for many years. Debra then went on to work at Michaels Machine Shop and GCA until her retirement. Debra was a strong, loving person who tried to look after everyone if she could. She was full of life. No matter when or where Debra kept it 100%. Debra was the type of person that told you exactly how she felt and never sugar coated anything. She was preceded in death by her mother Virginia E. Reid, step-mother Ilma Oates, daughter Latanya Turner, brothers Darren "Bubba" Edmond and Derrick Oates and sister Dawn Oates. Debra is survived by her father Frederick "Fred" Oates, children Latasha Bumpus, Latisha Burns and DaQuan Burns, Grandchildren Isaiah Cobb, Ernest Davion Cobb, Travon Bumpus, LaVontae Burns, Tashay Bumpus, Yasmine Matthews, Michael Matthews, Jr. Jizzil Matthews, Zoey Matthews, Jace Burns and Nahlig Burns, great granddaughter Miya, brothers Douglas Oates, Darnell Reid, and sister Dedra Reid, special daughters Joshelyn Lloyd, Tina Campbell, Nicole Cobb and Tamashaye Short, dear friends Robert Chambliss and Antonio Wilkerson and special cousin Linda Ratliff. Debra is further survived by a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A visitation of remembrance will be held at the Purath-Strand Funeral Home, 3915 Douglas Avenue on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 pm. Repast will be held at 1014 State Street following vistation.
