Daniel O. Melbye, 72, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018. Dan was born in Evanston, IL on July 19, 1945, the son of David and Evelyn (nee, Turney) Melbye. He married the former Jane McMullen. Dan retired from Racine Unified School District where he taught at various schools for over 38 years. He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of the BMW MOA Club. He also loved the outdoors, camping and trains. Survivors include his wife, Jane Melbye; children, David (Kristal) Melbye, Jenifer (David) Nowotny and Michael (Christine) Melbye; grandchildren, Kathryn, Annemarie, Lucas, Alison, Adam, Laura, Eric and Claire; and his sister, Marilyn (Alan) Meyer; brother, Paul Melbye; and nephew, Douglas (Lauren) Meyer. Dan is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. In keeping with Dan's wishes, a private family service was held. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
