Christel Ocheltree (née Weitkuhn) — Racine, WI — Age 91

Christel Ocheltree, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at Shorelight at Siena in Racine, Wisconsin. She was 91 years old.

Born on November 3, 1933, in Falkenburg, Pomerania, Christel was the daughter of Hermann and Minna Weitkuhn. In 1951, she bravely immigrated to the United States with her parents and brothers, Gerd (Anita) and Hans (Bridgette), seeking refuge and opportunity after the upheaval of World War II and the loss of their homeland to communism.

Christel built a life rooted in love, resilience, and family. She was the devoted mother of Heidi Makris and Lori Artiomow (Gary Raasch), and on her birthday in 1964, she married her soulmate, John D. Ocheltree. Their union was filled with joy until John's passing in 1978. Christel also embraced her role as stepmother to Scott and Mark Ocheltree.

Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren—Anna Lawless (Danny), Todderick Anderson, and Alex Chromy (Christina Congleton)—and great-grandchildren, Lily Lawless and Tycho Congleton. She is survived by her loving family, including her brothers, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many extended relatives and dear friends.

Christel was known for her warmth, generosity, and the simple joys she found in life. She had a deep love for gardening, cooking, and gathering with family. Her meals were legendary—nourishing not just the body, but the soul. Her home was always filled with the scent of fresh flowers, the laughter of loved ones, and the comfort of her culinary creations.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Shorelight at Siena and St. Croix Hospice for their care and kindness during Christel's final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Christel's remarkable journey and the love she shared so freely.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
