Obituary

Racine – Chizuko Arendt, (nee, Takashima), born February 15, 1931 to Tsumoru and Shizu (nee, Abe) Takashima in Fukuoka prefecture, Japan, entered final preparations for her new life on December 7, 2011, at the age of 80 after dealing with multiple illnesses and infirmities. She was a devote Buddhist, following the principles set forth by Nichiren Daishonin faithfully since her early twenties. Chizuko was united in marriage to Douglas Arendt on March 29, 1963 and moved to Racine in 1966. Chizuko enjoyed and was very talented at many crafts. She loved performing classical Japanese dance. Among her favorite things to do was being with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, teaching them Japanese words and culture, and making oriental food for them. She was an avid football fan but her favorite sport was Japanese sumo. Chizuko loved watching classical Japanese samurai movies as well as 1940 and 50's musicals. She will be remembered tenderly and missed immensely by her husband of 48 years, her four children, her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She will also be missed by her fellow Sokkagakai members who remember her as a strong supporter and advocate for the proliferation of her religion. Chizuko is survived by her husband, Douglas Arendt; her four sons, Eugene (Rhonda) Arendt, Daryl (Diane) Arendt, Matthew Arendt and Scott (Amy) Arendt; grand-daughters, Krystal Arendt, Ericka Arendt, Kaitlin Arendt and Darian Lucas. She is further survived by grandsons, Jacob Arendt, Jackson Danger Arendt and Marcus Evans; great-grandson, Jaycen Highman; sisters, Sakiko Saito and Nobuko Tanaka; and her brother, Kuniomi Takashima. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers, Toshiyuki and Hachiro Takashima; a sister; and grand-daughter, Delilah Arendt. A memorial gathering for Chizuko will be held at Infusino's Banquet Hall, 3201 Rapids Drive, on for Monday, December 12, 2011 from 4 until 6 p.m.
