At the young age of 76 our dear sister Cecilia "Cecil" Schmidt passed away February 11, 2025 as a result of ALS. She was born April 2, 1948 to Herman and Barbara (nee: Spear) Schmidt in Vancouver, Washington and lived most of her life in Racine. She attended St. John Nepomuk Catholic School, class of 1962. After one year at Jerstad-Agerholm she became a student at William Horlick High School, class of 1966.
Cecil was employed at Twin Disc Incorporated, retiring after 42 years of dedicated service. She was an outstanding worker in the aftermarket area and enjoyed the countless friendships she made along the way. Cecil also took pleasure in her many trips to casinos and proved to be an excellent poker player. She was an avid runner, loved solving puzzles, watching game shows and traveling with friends on camping trips to Ely, Minnesota. Following the activities of her niece and nephews also brought her much happiness.
If you knew Cecil, then you knew that you met one of the nicest, most caring people ever with her positive attitude and a smile that always made you feel welcomed. She never complained despite being afflicted with a most devastating disease imaginable. Rather, she faced it with grace, dignity and uncommon courage.
With giant hugs, welcoming Cecil to her new life are her father and mother, Herman and Barbara Schmidt. Missing Cecil with heavy hearts are her brothers and sisters- in- law, John ( Linda ) Schmidt, Kevin ( Laura ) Schmidt, Fred ( Robin ) Schmidt and Don ( Barb ) Schmidt. Also saddened by Cecil's passing are many nieces, nephews and cousins along with longtime friends Bessie Macier and Pat Ransom.
Thank you to St. Croix Hospice for your compassion, respect and guidance for these past number of weeks. You really are appreciated more than words can say.
Cecil's family extends our most heartfelt gratitude to Bess who took such wonderful care of her during this most difficult time. Bess, your compassion and patience are something we will never forget. As much as we all loved Cecil, please know we are now your brothers and sisters, and we dearly love you too.
Per Cecil's wishes, no services were held. In lieu of flowers, donations to The ALS Foundation would be appreciated.
