Obituary

Racine – Carol Jean Shepherd, 87, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Carol was born in Racine on April 10, 1925 to Elmer J. and Anna (nee, Kornack) Bartels. She married Robert A. Shepherd at Grace Chapel Lutheran Church on March 18, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1977. Carol graduated from Park High School in 1943. She had worked for many years at Zayres, Medical Engineering and last working for over ten years at F.W. Woolworth, retiring in 1988. Carol loved crafts, crocheting afghans and playing cards. She had a perfect Cribbage hand in 2001. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings as recent as this past Christmas. Carol was always there to lend a listening ear or helping hand to her family. She cared for all of us with her comforting way. Survivors include her children, Debra Shepherd, Steven Shepherd, Janice Shepherd and Kerry (John Tsokatos) Cacciotti; grandchildren, Amy (Bo Jackson) Burgher, Brian Burgher, Stevie Lynn Shepherd; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brayden Burgher-Jackson; sisters, Betty (late Arnold) Kruse, Pat (Mike) Sweeti; and her sister-in-law, Doris (late Robert) Cooper. Carol is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Barbara; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles. In keeping with Carol's wishes cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held. Memorials may be directed to the Healthcare Network or the Wisconsin Humane Society. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 3rd floor staff at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints, especially Nurse Jenna and Hospice Care.
