Obituary

Bruce M. DeYoung Racine - Bruce M. DeYoung, 83, our dear friend and father, passed away at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha on Sunday, January 4, 2009. He left us too soon and will be greatly missed. Bruce was born in Chicago, IL on August 5, 1925 to John V. and Effie (nee, Martinson) DeYoung. He has been a resident of Racine since 1989. Bruce served in the U.S. Army, 76th Infantry Division during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and three Battle Stars while serving in Germany and the European Theatre. Bruce was employed as a Marketing Executive with the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times and the New York Daily News. He was the sole proprietor of DeYoung Communications for 20 years. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and a member of Voices and Verses. Survivors include his former wife and devoted companion, Carla Alagna of Racine; children, Nancy (Gerry) Nordgren of Oak Park, IL, Barbara DeYoung of Ridgeland, MS, Mary Beth and Margaret DeYoung of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Rachel Nordgren and Caleb Nordgren; brother, Lynden (June) DeYoung of Lake Bluff, IL; and former wife, Kay DeYoung of Wheaton, IL. Bruce is also survived by a niece, two nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jean (Bill) Blimke. Memorial services to celebrate Bruce's life will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 40 Ohio Street in the spring. Inurnment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park, IL.
