Racine – Betty Jane Johnson, age 88, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 7, 2013.Betty was born to Leslie T. and Adela (nee: Kott Meier) Clugg Sr. in Marshfield, WI on July 2, 1924. When Betty was 2 years old she moved to Racine, WI with her parents and her sister Elaine. On May 3, 1947 Betty was united in marriage to Peter Johnson at Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Racine. Peter and Betty were married for 54 years. They had two sons Mark and Michael. Peter passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Mark, her sister Elaine, nephews James and John Rinta and brother-in-law Arvid Rinta. She is survived by her son Michael Johnson, and her only brother Leslie F. Clugg Jr. and his wife Barbara including their three daughters Pamela Kohel-Harrison, Penny (Scott) Sharp, and Pat (Scott) Shain. Betty is further survived by her nephews, Jeff Rinta, Randy Gehring and Jimmie Reiser, and great-nieces and nephews, Leslie, Matthew, Karl, Jennifer, Andrew, Jeremy, Jason, Jared, Nicholas, Cody, Tyler and great-great nephews Logan and Landon. During World War II, Betty worked in the Wing Division at J.I. Case Co. She also worked for Hamilton Beach for many years until the company closed here in Racine. Betty then became a receptionist for Weight Watchers for 22 years before retiring in 1997. Betty loved her dogs and enjoyed gardening.Funeral services for Betty will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Purath-Strand Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, June 11th from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be a short visitation from 10:30 until the time of service on Wednesday. Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband following services at West Lawn Memorial Park.The family wishes to thank all of her Betty's care givers.
