Obituary

Bernita A. 'Barnie' Ilika Racine - Bernita A. 'Barnie' (nee, Wooding) Ilika, 84, passed into eternal life on Monday, March 5, 2007. Barnie was born in Chicago, IL on February 1, 1923 to Elmer and Alta (nee, Menyea) Wooding. She had been a resident of Orland Park and Palos Heights prior to moving to Racine. Martha was united in marriage to John Ilika on June 8, 1941. A gifted artist and descendant of the English painter, Sir Thomas Lawrence, Barnie loved beauty wherever she found it. She was an accomplished musician and talented interior designer, a nature lover and bird watcher. Besides her devotion to her husband, she found great pleasure in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She wanted everyone to know that 'most of all, she loved her Lord'. Survivors include her husband, John Ilika; daughters, Patricia Black and Anita Ilika; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Westover and William (Lorinda) Black; great grandchildren, Fayth, Rebekah and Stephen Black, and Audrey and Olivia Westover; sister, Evelyn Porter; sister-in-law, Dolores Wooding; and nieces, Nancy and Wendy. Barnie is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wallace Wooding; brother-in-law, Samuel Porter; and niece, Nina. At Barnie's request, family services and interment will be private. Donations may be directed to Racine Bible Church Music Ministry or Alzheimer's Association.
