Bernice C. KortumRacine- Bernice C. Kortum, 91, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Wednesday, November 2, 2011.Bernice was born in Milwaukee on March 14, 1920 to George and Ida (nee: Rehmus) Simon. She married the love of her life, Robert Kortum on August 10, 1940. They cherished 60 years of marriage at the time of his death on March 7, 2001. Bernice was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was best known for her wonderful meals and her open door policy. Bernice enjoyed vacationing with Bob and spending time with her family, especially following Kate's adventures.She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joy (Raymond) Treu and Jill (Brian) Hanes; granddaughter, Kate Hanes and sister-in-law, Shirley Holman of Davenport, FL. Bernice is further survived by extended family, Jeff (Jeanene) Treu and their children, Emmy and Ally, Randy Treu, and Lisa Treu and her children, Thomas, Casey and Cody. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, two sisters, brother and other family members.Funeral services for Bernice will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2219 Washington Avenue on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Tracy Polzin officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Private family entombment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shriners Children's Hospital, Sheboygan Symphony or Manitowoc Symphony have been suggested.Bernice's family would like to thank Dr. David Zablotney for his compassion and guidance and the angels on 1 East at Ridgewood Care Center.
