RACINE – Benjamin G. "Bud" Nelson, 78, passed away at Ascension All Saints Hospital on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Bud was born in Racine on February 22, 1939 to Roy and Dorothy Nelson. He graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Donna Schattner on March 22, 1960, celebrating 57 years of marriage. Bud served in the U.S Army for three years. He was employed by Webster Electric for 25 years and Jacobson Textron for 10 years, retiring in 1999. Bud loved spending time with his friends each day at McDonald's on Douglas Avenue in the morning and at the YMCA each afternoon. Survivors include his wife, Donna Nelson; sons, Benjamin J. (Jodie Azarian) Nelson and Michael (Betsy) Nelson; and grandchildren, Emily and Zachery. Bud is also survived by his sister, Donna Hart; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Kurt Nelson. A memorial service for Bud will be held at the funeral home on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
