Racine – Barbara J. (nee, Simon) Zagar, 71, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, November 20, 2010. Barb was born in Racine on May 7, 1939 to Byron Simon and Betty Burg. She married Theodore A. Zagar on August 18, 1956. He preceded her in death June 12, 2009. Family was first and foremost in Barb's life. She was never judgmental and always encouraged her family to live their own life. She loved spending time with her sister Janet and her children. Barb loved spending time at Castle Lanes watching bowling. She also enjoyed craft fairs and spending time at Gus's with Ted and her grandchildren. Barb is survived by her children, Kim Marie Zagar, Anthony Wayne (Annamarie) Zagar and Matthew James (Sharon) Zagar; grandchildren, Sarah, Ted, Kerstin, Austin, Ryan, Kyle and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Sophia, Eric and Jenna; her sister, Janet (Wayne) Lee; brother, Thomas (Doris) Simon; special nieces and nephew, Jodi, Sebastian and Tabitha Stephens; and special friend, Louie Derwae. Barb is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald Simon and Michael Simon; nephew, Kristopher Lee; and special friend, Judy Derwae. A memorial service for Barb will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 7 p.m. Private family inurnment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ted Zagar Memorial Scholarship Bowling Tournament, held annually at Castle Lanes.
