Racine – Barbara J. Tobias, 71, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Barb was born in Milwaukee on July 30, 1941 to Warren and Bernice (nee, Vohs) Kaye. She began her career as an Electronics buyer for Gimbels Schuster's in Milwaukee, last working as the Hallmark buyer at Shorecrest Pharmacy in Racine. In between she spent many years working at Shorecrest Bowling. Barb was an accomplished artist. She loved and excelled at drawing and, painting. Barb also enjoyed crafting, sewing, knitting and quilting. But most of all, Barb was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.Barb is survived by her children, Jeanne Fernandez, Christopher Tobias, and Michael Tobias; grandchildren, Samuel and Jesse Fernandez, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Isabelle Nowik; her sister, Diane Rateike; loving friend, Gene Gainey and her cat, Homer. Barb is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Robert Tobias.A memorial service for Barb will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening, January 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
