Racine – Arthur N. Vaillancourt, 99, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Thursday, December 3, 2009.Art was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on September 30, 1910 to Eugene and Elizabeth (nee: Alsop) Vaillancourt. He married the former Rebecca Meininger, who preceded him in death. On March 9, 1963 Art married the former Marilyn Rose (Pooch) Therkelson. Art worked with his brother for many years as a barber at Sid's Barber Shop. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in England, with the 187th General Hospital. He worked as a telephone operator. He supervised Army and civilian personal at telephone switchboards. Art operated Gem Novelty Sales before going into real estate. After retiring from real estate, he worked in maintenance at Shoreline Manor. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, playing cards, and doing word puzzles. Art was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an elder and as an usher for many years. Survivors include his loving wife Marilyn Vaillancourt; daughter, Gail (Andy) Martinez; granddaughter, Andrea Martinez; great grandchildren, Amber, Sierra, Jaylen, and Isaac; along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sister, Sidney Vaillancourt, Henry Vaillancourt, Victor Vaillancourt, Edward Vaillancourt, Mack Vaillancourt, Harold Vaillancourt, Dorothy (Werk) Vaillancourt, and sister in law, Dorothy Meininger. Funeral services for Art will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2065 Geneva Street, on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Elizabeth Home Care for the tender loving care they gave to Art during his stay.
