Alice H. VanKoningsveld (Geiss) (nee:Meyer) age 89 passed away peacefully on Sunday December 1, 2019. Alice was born on April 30,1930 in Racine to Lars and Cora Meyer. She was a graduate of Park High school in 1948 and married to Fred Geiss Jr. in 1949. Together they had six children. Fred passed away unexpectedly in 1960. In 1967 she married Richard VanKoningsveld and together they had 17 years together until Richard's death in 1984.Alice was preceded in death by her parents; Lars and Cora Meyer; husband, Fred Geiss Jr., husband Richard VanKoningsveld; Infant Son; daughter, Bonnie L. Geiss and sister-in-law, Marlene Meyer.Alice is survived by her brother, James Meyer of Cleveland, Tennessee; Her Sons; Rick(Sue) Geiss, Steve (Carol) Geiss and Jim Geiss; Her daughters Sandy McGill, Judy(Robb) Rasmussen; Her grandchildren; Elizabeth Geiss, Rick Geiss Jr.,(Krystal), Kelly (Stacy) McGill, Bonnie (Steve) Hoaglund, Heather (Brad) Carr, Hanna (Michael) Martinez and Harlen Geiss; Her great grandchildren; Alyssa and Evan Ludwig, Dorothy, Gladys and Lucian Hoaglund, Alex and Bea McGill, Peyton and Patrick Carr, Landin and Braydin Martinez and Kaylee Geiss; Special Friends Scooter Judy and Sandy K. and the many friends from Lake Oaks.Alice was a homemaker to Fred and six kids during the 1950's until Fred Geiss Jr. passed away suddenly in 1960 and she was left to raise 6 kids at age 30. She persevered by baking her own bread and getting a gallon of milk from the Progressive Dairy truck and cutting that with powdered milk to make six gallons. There were many good times and times of struggles including having pancakes in the shape of turkeys for Thanksgiving. She would shop at Feeny's on Villa for groceries and he would record the amount in his spiral notebook. When she had the extra funds, she would send one of the kids over to have it applied to her balance. It took a while but it was always paid off.She started working at Hamilton Beach winding armatures on 3rd shift to help make ends meet.In 1967, she married Richard VanKoningsveld who made life a lot easier for her. They traveled around in their truck camper and were able to enjoy many community events and shows. She also was a model for a few local women's clothing stores doing various shoots around town.Richard passed away in 1984 and she went back to work at Johnson Wax with ARA as a salad chef and cashier. Sam Johnson would come for lunch and always had Alice make him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, He always said nobody can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich like Alice.She then starting working at O&H bakery on Durand Ave. which she always enjoyed working with and serving people.In 2010, she sold her house on North Main and moved into Lake Oaks. She had a full day every day with all the activities she got involved in there including Bridge, Cribbage Dominos, Bingo, exercise classes, the Lunch Bunch and Theater Guild trips. She loved being part of the Lake Oaks family.The family would like to thank Hospice Services for their caring and helpful services during this time.
