Obituary

Alice Hazarian passed away peacefully at Lakeshore at Siena on June 28, 2026. A loving aunt and acclaimed artist, she was 93.

A beautiful funeral service was held July 8, 2026, at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church in Racine, followed by internment at Graceland Cemetery.

Alice was born to Arakel and Anna Hazarian on May 20, 1933, and lived her entire life in Racine — but her impact was felt by generations here and around the world.

Following high school, she went to work for Western Publishing along with her twin sister, Hunaz, and would do so for the next 40-plus years. In retirement, she managed the roses section at Milaeger’s nursery, built homes in Armenia with Habitat for Humanity, and enjoyed hours of working in her studio.

In her chaotic approach to life that often didn't make much sense to others, it was in the garden, studio and church where Alice’s God-inspired gifts would bloom.

Her Willmor Street backyard was a palette of vibrant colors and textures, both wild and cultured, and she managed community gardens throughout the city for the benefit of others. Her paintings, pottery and mixed media artworks fascinated and intrigued Guild patrons, and she created hundreds of pieces for family and friends.

Known as Miss Alice at St. Mesrob, she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years, inspiring generations of young boys and girls to follow the teachings of Christ while remaining rooted in their Armenian heritage. She set a high bar, held herself to it and expected those around her to rise up to it as well.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary and Hunaz, and brothers Parnik and Peter. She is survived by several godchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Alice will be held at St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 4605 Erie Street, Racine on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
