Obituary
On June 15, 1957 at St. Mesrob Armenian Church in Racine, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Mikael Garoukian. They were happily married for 63 years.
After graduating near the top of her class from Horlick High School in 1948, she began a long career including roles at Walker Mfg., Massey Ferguson, and finally at S. C. Johnson & Son. During her children's teenage years, she returned to work at SC Johnson where she stayed for 15 years, ending as an Executive Secretary. She loved working at Johnson's and still maintained friendships from there. She willingly retired from her job to move to her next career: daycare for her first two grandchildren. Her proudest achievement was being a special Nana to her five grandchildren.
Alice was a lifelong member of St. Mesrob Armenian Church serving for 30 years as a Sunday School teacher and a lifelong member of the church's Women's Guild where she served in all the executive positions. She loved her church and participated in all of its activities over the years.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Karen (Anthony L.) Garoukian Ferraro, son Mikael V. (Victoria Kies) Garoukian, grandchildren Zachary and Nina Ferraro; Samantha, Rachel and Mikael T. Garoukian. She is further survived by brother John (Virginia) Hachikian of Atlanta, GA; sisters Julie Hachikian Petersen of Racine and Sandy Engel of Madison, WI; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Mikael, sister Virginia Hachikian; brothers-in-law, Art Petersen and John Engel; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mariam and Harold Sahakian.
Funeral services for Alice will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at St. Mesrob Armenian Church, 4605 Erie Street, Racine 53402. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with funeral services to begin at 11:00 a.m. Private burial services will be held at a later date. Memorials to St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church or FAR (Fund for Armenian Relief) are suggested.
