Racine - Aleksandras Verikas 90 passed peacefully to eternal life on July 2st with his loving wife Elisabeth and other family members at his side. Aleksandras was born in Dudanose, Lithuania on April 1st, 1923. His early years were affected by political unrest in Europe and at age 20 he refused to join the Nazi army and was therefore deported to Germany to a hard labor camp. He survived this episode of his life by the grace of God and was freed at the end of WW II. Shortly thereafter Aleksandrus met his wife Elisabeth in Hann.Munden, Germany, they married in 1950. While in Germany, Aleksandrus served with the Lithuanian unit 4204 of the American Army stationed in Uhlerborn. In 1956 the couple immigrated to the United States and earned citizenship. They appreciated this opportunity and valued it highly. Aleksandras found work almost immediately with Interlake Steel Company in Racine where he was employed until he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Lithuanian community and St. Casimir's Catholic Church. Aleksandras was a hard worker and made the most out of life and his time. He was creative was wise and turned his talents into a hobby. After working hours he restored residential properties. On Sundays he rested and enjoyed free time with his family. He was a dedicated husband and father. His example will live on in his children and their children. He will be sadly missed by his family and those who knew him. Aleksandras is survived by his wife Elisabeth Verikas, his children, Peter (Mary) Verikas of Pocatello, ID, Raymond (Tammy) Verikas of Racine, WI, Elana (Robert) Tarwid of Racine, WI and John (Michelle) Verikas of Racine, WI; grandchildren, Sharon Verikas, Eric Verikas, Melanie Verikas-Larson, Corey Gauthier, Raymond Chavez, Justin Richardson, Alicia Verikas, Alex Verikas, Victoria Verikas, John Verikas, and Joseph Verikas. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren; his brother Juozas Verikas of Lithuania; and other family members in Lithuania. Aleksandras is preceded in death by his daughter Annie Verikas-Sandbom.A funeral service for Aleksandras will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John Fleming officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
